I was out yesterday in the early morning with all of nature, the sound of running water, and no man-made distraction. I wanted a fire to sit around and warm me up, but in my hurry to have it I neglected to build it from the ground up. That always involves starting small, with paper and twigs, then bigger branches, and then finally smaller logs. I tried to put the bigger wood on too soon, without the smaller branches and twigs, and it took twice as long as normal and much more effort to bring about the beauty and warmth a cozy fire. Many things I do in life are the same way. I ignore ‘here a little’, ‘there a little’, ‘step by step’, in the rush to have it right away. And then of course it does not work as well, takes longer, or is less satisfying. Help me Lord to have more patience, more awareness, and more appreciation of the moment I am in.
