Life on the Ranch….slow down, you move too fast…

I was out yesterday in the early morning with all of nature, the sound of running water, and no man-made distraction. I wanted a fire to sit around and warm me up, but in my hurry to have it I neglected to build it from the ground up. That always involves starting small, with paper and twigs, then bigger branches, and then finally smaller logs. I tried to put the bigger wood on too soon, without the smaller branches and twigs, and it took twice as long as normal and much more effort to bring about the beauty and warmth a cozy fire. Many things I do in life are the same way. I ignore ‘here a little’, ‘there a little’, ‘step by step’, in the rush to have it right away. And then of course it does not work as well, takes longer, or is less satisfying. Help me Lord to have more patience, more awareness, and more appreciation of the moment I am in.

Life on the Ranch….to every season

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. That’s a very peaceful feeling phrase, because we feel a bit of the eternity and oneness that it conveys. The cycle, the return to the seed and re-growth, is what nature is all about. On the ranch it is always evident when we move back enough to see the complete cycle. The seed is planted, the newborn arrives, thru growth it matures, and replants its own likeness to begin again. There is a peacefulness and harmony in that cycle, which is a part of us also. It is the oneness of the “ I am” that we are, striving to grow as the child of the “Great I am”, the oneness of all that is.

Life on the Ranch….Summertime

Summertime, and the livin’ is easy now…….so goes the song, and for the most part all the animals on the ranch go along with it. In the middle of the day with the sun bearing down, you’ll find all the ranch animals in the shadiest spots they they can find, not moving nor eating, just waiting patiently for the heat to pass into the cool of the evening. As I work outside at various jobs that I think I must do, I can just hear their thoughts of “that guys got a lot to learn” I think they’re right !
